Staff are encouraged to get involved in the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (PDF 324KB) for ANU. Green ICT is strategically linked with the Environmental Management Plan and you can participate in a number of ways. See the ‘Tips’ page for a number of solutions to make your ICT Environmentally friendly. Email us if you would like to be involved in the project implementation phase.

Student projects and student volunteers

ANUgreen offers internships every semester to students who are interested in working on sustainability projects. We also have a number of student volunteers constantly working with us. Some of the student projects done last year were:

  • In the summer of 2010, an engineering student did a study on the energy consumption of ANU Data Centres. The report contributed to the baseline carbon footprint of ICT
  • An MBA student has done a study on the process innovation of the E-Waste Process at ANU
  • Student volunteers have assisted in conducting energy audits of the ICT devices
  • Marketing students have assisted in developing informative videos on Green ICT

There are a number of ways in which students can get involved. Email us with your interests and we will get back to you.

IT staff

With the support of IT Managers, the Green ICT initiative has been able to gather information on the number and type of ICT systems at ANU. This information has been useful in investigating the baseline energy consumption of ICT. Some areas have even set up trials of energy efficiency technologies to reduce energy consumption of ICT.

  • Finance & Business Services (F&BS) area is in the process of trialing a Desktop Power Management Software.
  • Division of Information (DOI) Info Commons are trialing a wake-on Lan solution in the student labs.
  • Data Centre managers will be scheduling a change in the temperature set point to see the change in the energy consumption.

The results of these trials will be displayed once they are completed and benefits and outcomes outlined.
